My whole front grill clip is dull. Can it be refinished somehow? It's in good condition, but just doesn't have a good shine. This is the entire front front clip that holds in the headlights and center grill. Can it be purchased anywhere?
I've heard of many people trying to polish these things and they just aren't real sucessful in the process. You can get an aftermarket replacement which may or may not fit right and will be very soft or you can get a newly made one from Dennis Carpenter which is made on the original Ford dies. It runs about $600.00.
I got one in perfect condition (no dents) off of a truck in a junkyard, but it didn't have any shine to it. I tried polishing it up, and it worked for about a month, but now it is dull again(not as dull as it was when I got it, but nothing special).
I sanded mine down pretty good to get rid of the dullness and factory coating. then started sanding finer and eventually wet sanding up to 1500, then I worked it with a rubbing compound and buffer, then some mothers polish then used the are wheel wax on it to help keep it shiny. so far so good, but I still have a couple of dents in mine so I was planning on having it chromed anyhow so I figured nothing to lose trying myself. It will get me by another year or so til I save money to have it chromed. which I was quoted around 7-800 dollars.
Wow. I had it on ebay and took it off. It was up to $76 in no time. Glad I took it off. $600 is insane when I have other stuff to do first. Thanks guys! Love this site.
After you get it polished to the way you like use a product called Gliston PC from por15. The stuff has stayed on mine for 4 years so far. It's will not look as good as new but it a big improvement.
You are right, it is $240, its been a while since I looked.
Frankly, I can't hardly tell a difference between the JCW piece and my original. They must have some kind of factory mold that they user when making these.
Also, my experience has been that they are pretty good with returns as long as you keep all boxes, packaging materials, etc... so order one and check it out...if you don't like it, return it.

Also, I didn't put that link in there, FTE did.
If I don't find a good grill elsewhere, I may check that out.
I mean't my link. I tried to link to the product but it wouldn't work so I just put the item number.
