Unhappy another EGT and boost question

i was towing a 12ft. box trailer in 90deg. heat over rolling hills here in okla. the other day and noticed my egt's easily reaching the 1200deg mark with boost of only 5 or 6 running up the hills trying to achieve 60mph. just installed the 5in. exhaust and was running a predator 40hp tow mode. does this sound abnormal? truck seems to take longer to cool down also. this was my first time to tow anything with substantial weight. thanks

Was your AC on? It will take twice as long to cool down with AC running.

how does your intercooler look..? is it clean inside and out.. ? your numbers do not sound right to me... i have to push pretty hard to get those temps when pulling the 10 k lb 5ver in 90 degree heat....

What rpm's were you running. Sounds like you may have been lugging the motor to me. Get the rpm's up, that will raise the boost and lower egt's.

I just drove across the state on 412 highway with egt's at 600-700 with 5 to 6 pounds of boost. I have a 4 inch exhaust and dp tuner, w/6637 intake. Sound to me like you have a boost leak.

This is very abnormal. I'll get 15 psi on a hill EMPTY with gobs of power and I have the same setup as you. If I floor it: 21 PSI, wastegate connected and I have to WORK it to get to 1200

i was running just under 2000rpm and guess the trailer at 5000 or so lb. have never looked inside my intercooler tubes. noticed the same numbers empty yesterday. how do i check for a boost leak and turbo problem? would a dirty 6637 do this?

I've noticed lately that my intercooler tube on the drivers side seems to have more crap on it lately. Is there something I should look for?

I checked mine out today at 60 in od with 900 egt's I get 6 psi boost, with 1000 egt's I have near 10 pounds. going on 412 I was 80 and never got to 800 degrees on cruise and never seen 10 pounds of boost maybe 2200rpm.

Hey I had similar probs but they were cause I had an exhaust leak and after I fixed that I was dumb enough to leave the front boost sensor fitting off of the front of the manifold. Lots of noise no go.

The CCV mod? That would take care of a lot of the oil seeping out of the intake pipes to the external surface of the boot
