I glad that you survive the wreck, don't had the numbers but some cops don't always wear their seat-belts either

BTW, no one ever had an answer for my original question: What's the reasoning behind pre-81 vehicles being exempted?

The bodies in these vehicles either were not built for the loading required or the effects of years of use and abuse have caused enough deterioration that mandating them would make no sense. Or is it just law makers in CYA mode trying to head off frivolous lawsuits.

that's what i did, i carry a copy of it with my reg.and proof
of ins. and if you show that statement to the driver's
lic. office when you renew they will put it in the restrictions
area on back of your new drivers lic.

in my opion it's just another loss of freedom of choice,
also the mandatory law was passed because the feds
that ky would loss 1/2 of the road funds if they didn't
pass this stupid law.

back in the 40's ford discussed puting seat belts
in everything they made, but decided againest it
because they felt that it would make the customer
think there car's and trucks where unsafe.

It's funny, that you must wear them in any vehicle pretty much that came with them, but the much better racing belts must be replaced every 5 years, even if you never took them out of the box, yet you must rely on the original ones in your daily vehicle (that you are much more apt to be in an accident than in a 1/4 mile straight line race) that have been exposed to the elements such as sunlight and many other degrading substances. My 01 F150 drivers belt doesn't even retract properly after removing it.

I wear mine all of the time because I want to, But why should you have to wear a seat belt if you don't have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle??????

I too have seen off duty officers driving with their children standing up in their marked car. I have called in the car's ID number once, don't know if anything came of it.
