Are ball joints covered under warranty? I have to bring my truck into the stealership to replace the alternator (under warranty I hope) and wanted to know if was even worth asking them to do the ball jints. If it is not covered then I will be doing them myself.
On a side note, since I will have half of the axle taken apart should I do my unit brearings at the same time? I do not think that they need to be done but they have 85,000 miles on them. Just a little preventative maintenance.
Thanks for the answers. I will going to the stealership and will talk with them then. Thanks again.
Be prepared for a hassle because of your lift and oversized tires. They will try to get out of any warranty work because of the non stock items on your truck. Are you sure you need ball joints?
Yes, I am sure. I took it to my mechanic to have the sway bar bushings replaced and he told me that they are crap. Other than him telling me that I need new ball joints, I failed my state inspection and they (different people) also stated that it was the ball joints.
I have brought my truck into these guys before and they did not give me any trouble last time I was there but I am prepared for a hassle. Just trying to get it done for free and save a little money.
You need to read over you extended warranty contract and tell them what is covered. If you leave it up them they may not read it the same as you. I hope you do get it covered. Ball joints should last longer than that. Good luck
