Fuel injection removal

I need to remove the fuel injection on the driver side of my 1998 Expy so that I can replace the coil overs (cop's). I am being told that I have to relieve the fuel pressure prior to removing the rail & injectors. Is this correct? If so how do you relieve the pressure?
Any other advice on removing the system would be appreciated.

Thanks
Southside

i believe i've read on some of the spark plug posts that the cops can be gotten to without actually removing the fuel injection lines...might want to look into that.

Be a whole lot easier if I can move the rail & injectors out of the way.Any advice in removing the injectors would still be appreciated.

Thanks

I have replaced every one of the COPs on my '99 Expy with 5.4L engine. I did not have to disconnect any of the fuel rails. pay special attention to the COP hold down bolts. Theya re aluminum and strip or bust off real easy. Best advice when re-installing the hold down bolt. If it feels like it's not tightening..it's not, its breaking in half. I bought new ones from Ford along with a thread cleaner tool and re-did them all. but first I busted the bolt off on cylinder #4 trying to put the old hold down bolt back in.........

Take a lesson learned.....

You can definitely remove the COPS WITHOUT removing the fuel rail. Just be patient, do them one a time. You'll have to twist them around some after you pull up and disengage the boot from the plug, but the COPS will come out past the rail.

It might appear to be easier with the fuel rail removed, but why risk a broken injector or leaking O-ring.
