This is the bolt-connection from the bedside to the bed cross-bar.
Do you think a good weld on a patch panel would be good enough?
Anybody want to give me a welder? How bout a torch? Wrench? Screwdriver? come on guys.. hehe
man its not the greatest but I got a campbel hausfield welder for 100 bucks at wal mart I have been welding all day (floor boards) in my bronco , it actually works great for body work . I would weld a washer on the edge and be done with it. the welder by the way is a stick welder not a mig. but if you can weld at all its pretty handy.
Well, I have a piece of 3/4" x 2" 14 ga sheet metal left over from repairing my bedsides that would do the job nicely, either bolted or welded in. Every one of mine looked like that, so I hacked off the entire flanges and bolted a long flanged piece onto each side. It's very strong. Unless you did your entire side like that, I guess I'd weld in a patch on yours just for aesthetics.
They make a bed side angle strip that looks like the bed strips. This covers and strengthens the bad bed angles. Jay-Pro made them first.I think Mid-Fifty now sells them too. They come plain steel or stainless. This is what I did to my bed. Beats buying brand new bed sides for a daily driver.
I would cut that section out with a cut off tool, then make a piece to replace the defective one. Weld it in place and grind the welds smooth. That section is very noticeable when the bed is put together.
