New truck question

I am in the process for a new truck looking at the 250, should I go with the v10 or the 6.0. The truck is going to be a daily driver, just towing a bike trailer sometimes. The only reason I am shying away from the v10 is the mpg and I heard ford is going to fade that motor out so down the road it could cause a problem to get work done on it. on the other hand how is the diesel as a daily driver? to work is about 10 miles. It would be nice to have the extra power of the diesel if you need it in the future.

It would take an awful lot of bad MPG to offset the big difference in price between the two, but on the other hand, if you are planning to tow anything heavier, you sound as if you already have made up your mind. I too had the same question about a year ago, but fate came to my rescue. I had a deal to purchase a V10 and the dealer had to go to NY (from Maryland) to get it. He kept promising me tomorrow and tomorrow never came. In the meantime, another local dealer "found" a diesel exactly like I wanted and the price was right. I've never been happier!!

Again, it's your decision, but if you WANT a diesel, get it !!

You have to look at all aspects between the two. Not only does the diesel cost more but diesel is more than gas (at least where I am at). Regular maintenance, fuel filters, oil filters, air filters, is more costly with the diesel also. Most see pretty good mileage with the diesel but like BP said it would take a long time to offset the price difference. I have never been anything but extremely happy with my 6.0. If you do decide you want to tow down the road you may want the 6.0 rather than come across that bridge and kick yourself. Both would be a great truck I am sure it just comes down to what YOU want.

I heard you couldn't get the V10 anymore in the SuperDuty?

2007 will mark the end of the 6.0L motor, as the new twin sequential turbo 6.4L PSD will be coming out in 2008. So both the current V10 & the 6.0L are on their way out the door.

There is no clear winner between the V10 & PSD...which is why countless threads have been started regarding this debate. Both motors are beasts of burden capable of doing just about anything you would want to do within the truck's GCWR. There are plenty of FTE members on both sides of the fence with lots of miles clocked on their motors. Overall, I would say that this is a personal choice more than anything else.

if resale value is a consideration, when i was shopping for a truck this march, people were trying to give V-10s away.

They are both powerful fun engines. The V-10 can be hard to acquire. I ordered my PSD, but I also would of had to order the V-10 as dealer's didn't have any on the lot. It really is a matter of what you prefer. We use my truck for everything, to include vacationing and I am extremely pleased with my PSD, however I looked very long and hard at the V-10 and would probably of been happy with it also.

I never owned a diesel before so when I was looking at getting a new truck I kinda went in looking at the V10 but I plan on keeping this truck for a very long time and the longevity of the diesel engine is what sold me on it. And after driving it for almost a month now I couldnt be happier.Im sold on the PSD.

The best deal for a Super Duty, hands down, is on a used V-10...even slightly used. Made a great deal for my country neighbor on one. Likely won't put 5,000 miles on it a year. Just needs for a couple of trips a year to the sale barn and a few trips for feed and seed.

Where are these v10 they are giving away? You pay 5K more at one end you get 5K more on the other. I am happy with my V10 but I would probably be happy with a PSD. For my style of driving and what I want the truck for it was a better choice for me. I made a long lost of pros and cons for me it was close but the V10 won and I am happy.

I like the V-10 and I don't believe I stated otherwise. In fact, I pushed my friend into buying one.

The point is...in the North Texas market any way, when the price of gas goes up a used one does not hold its value with the whoelsellers. Bad for the original buyer...great value for the second owner.
