Exhaust Question?

I just bought an 01 f350 with the 7.3. I already knew that it had 4in exhaust. when i crawled under there to look at something though, i noticed that the exhaust went from the turbo into a muffler and out the back. no cat. Iv heard that after a certain year they stoped having them is this true. will i have any problems with emmisions? thanks.

I wouldn't think you'll have any problems with emissions. My '02 didn't ever have one - I think it was different by years, AND by manual, or automatic transmissions, if I'm not mistaken.

If you WOULD have a problem with emissions - I would pick up a used one, and put it on JUST for the test!! They are a huge restriction to the exhaust flow!

No cats required on 01s as far as I know. (CA is always an exception). Now if your exhaust is stock, it's not a 4" system, rather 3.5".

Not always, at least as far as diesel pickups go. Mine is a 2000, first sold in Cali. No cat, never was one.

Also, unlike many other states, there are NO smog checks for diesels in Cali. Go figure.

i dont think any aftermarket exhaust come with a cat but you can get some that re-use the stock cat. if you dont have emission checks in your state then i wouldnt worry about it
