i have a 91 ford 150 which is bogging and backfiring through the air box. i was told its either the maf sensor or map sensor. i looked for the maf sensor which is generally near the air box i thought and didnt see a thing. so if someone could tell me wheee the maf sensor is location or where is the map sensor located. its a 5.8l fuel injected engine,
thanks is advance
joel
The '91 shouldn't be MAF unless it's been converted. It should have a MAP or BAP sensor located on the firewall right side near the A/C evaporator core. It sounds like you may have timing issue.
is there a way to tell myself if tis timing or do i have to bring it to a garage?wouldnt the map sensor also effect the air/fuel ratio and cause the bogging/hestitation when starting accleration or punching the gas pedal. if i baby the pedal it will acclerate fine, its under punching the pedal. also doesnt timing usually result by the exhaust backfiring not the airbox? thanks for future help.

The backfire comes thru the intake, the exhaust would be an afterfire, like a popping in the exhaust. The best thing to start off would be to pull the codes from the computer, it will tell you if any sensors are bad. http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13
You would need a timing light to tell, you can rent one from AutoZone if one is near you.
Start the truck and pull the connector off the MAP sensor. If it runs better temporarily, you may need a new MAP sensor, but run your codes to be sure. They are about $60. When my MAP went out, I had to play with the throttle just to keep it running. Got home, pulled the connector, and it ran smooth until the computer tried to compensate.
i found that the fuel pump pressure is only puitting out 20#'s and the fuel filter was clogged. i was told that if i replaced the filter and pump the mixture will be good and the truc k will run better. does this sound right?
