I have a 2000 F350 4x4 and need to access the rear parking brake pads. With the wheel off and the brake caliber off how does the rotor come off from this stage. Does the axle have to be removed or does the rotor come off leaving the hub behind. First time doing rear disc so any help would be appreciated.

If it's a Ford 10.5" rear axle assembly, the rotor just slides off. It might be rusted onto the hub, so flood it with penetrating oil, let it sit a while, and then, using a hammer and a 2x4, hit it from behind while turning it to "shock" it off.
If it's a dually or a Dana axle, then you have to pull the axle and dissassemble the wheel bearings.
You should be able to tell if it's 1 piece or 2 pieces by close inspection. For your sake, I hope it's a 10.5" Ford axle.

P.S. If the rotor is rocking, but will not slide off, you might have to adjust the emergency brake shoes smaller to allow the lip on the inside of the rotor to pass over the shoes.
Just out of curiosity how can you tell if your truck has a Ford 10.5 rear axle. Are there tell tail signs, cast numbers, bolt patterns etc.
If it is a SRW it is a Ford Sterling axle; if DRW Dana axle. There should be a tag on the pan bolt that will also identify it. In the tech folder at the top of the forum is a list of the codes.
