I have recently purchased a new 2006 FX4 Supercrew with the 6.5 bed. I am now in the dilemma of which exhaust system to buy. I want something that gives a good tone and power but without being overly noisey in the cab. I am also thinking about a new intake kit as well. All information you have with be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time,
Well, right now I am running a Volant cool air intake and a Flowmaster 40 series SIDO. I love they may they opened up my truck (05 ext. cab) but the exhaust does give off quiet a bit of interior resonance. I would recomend either a 50 series or go with a Magnaflow system, but I would highly recomend the air intake. ~Race
I have the flowmaster and like it alot, but you do get some noise in the cab. Some of the other guy's here have the Magnaflow and say it's not bad on the noise. Either way it should help bring your truck to life.
The flowmaster/magnaflow is one of the "great debates" here so you should get lot's of opinions shortly.
Here We Go Again The Great Debate! Here Is My Two Cents, I Have A 06 Crew V8 King Ranch And I Have Currently Installed: Magnaflow Cat Back, Si/so, K&n 63 Series Fipk Intake, And The Edge Evo. Wow! It Has Really Made A Huge Difference. I Think You Need To Seriously Consider All Of The Above Mods. The Magnaflow Has An Awesome Sound And You Almost Cannot Tell When You Are Crusing, Although My Wife Noticed A Difference. When You Get On It Or Are Just Accelerating, Peoples Heads Turn! You Cannot Go Wrong With Magnaflow!
I installed a FlowMaster cat back 3" side exit (mimics the stock tailpipe route) with a "50" series muffler as part of the package on my 2004 FX4 Scab. I bought it from Summit for 270 bucks and installed it myself. It's a perfect fit, it sounds great, you can hear it in the cab under acceleration, but it doesn't resonate at all.
Gas mileage? It sounds so good that I tend to use a little more throttle than I should!!
I won't get into the "debate"...I am waiting until a reputable shop does a dyno comparison and can show me repeatable results showing which is setup is clearly superior, not just 1-2 hp one way or the other.
