Gear Swap ????
I am planning to do a gear swap on my 1989 f150 4x4. I currently have 3.55(8.8) in the rear and 3.54(dana 44)in the front. I will be going with 4.10 rear and 4.09 in the front. This is the ad for the front gear "4.09 Ratio; Reverse Cut; Dana 44 Front Axle; Fits 3.92 & Numerically Higher Carrier" My question is, is this the correct gear for my differential? And what does it mean by "Fits 3.92 and Numerically Higher Carrier? thanks

I don't know about the Dana,but some 9 inch carriers had a factory relief made in the rear pinion bearing boss .You have to take a die grinder and clearance the casting to clear the ring gear on the 9 inchers when installing the deeper gears,(4.11,4.56,etc.).The deep gears have thicker ring gears so sometimes they need to have a little modification.
