Distributor Gears

OK, I am swapping in an 5.0, formerly EFI now carb. Has roller CAM. What type of distributor gear do I need....Bronze/Iron/Steel/Composite???? Please help

i think you need steel but check the compcam website to be sure.

Steel gear on a distributor that has vacuum or mechanical advance. I think the Ford distributor shaft size is smaller for the pre-EFI distributors so make sure the hole in the steel gear properly fits your distributor. 85 Mustang w/ manual transmission dist. is replacement to look for in doing the EFI to carb swap but are hard to find. I see your truck is an '83 so you already have all the other carb related stuff so it should be a relatively straight-forward swap.

Thanks guys. Picked up the motor at junkyard. Guy didnt know what it came out of. But based off the pushrod length we believe it to be out of 86-90 mustang. Intake just said 5.0 EFI, not HO.
