a 3G 130 amp. alternator at the local boneyard today after going there just to pick up a couple of bumper guards for our Buick. I must have looked at about 150 Taurus and Sable engine bays a couple of days ago and found nothing! Today, just after I got there they dumped off a '94 Taurus with the 3.8 motor. I charged over there and looked under the hood and BLING! The alternator looked like it had only been in service for a month or so. The guy at the checkout was even thinking that maybe they should charge a few extra $$ for it. As it went I got it for $25.00 including the wiring harness.
I have also "acquired" a couple of Hayden 14" electric fans that I would like to install in our '91 F150 and was wondering if anyone on the Forum has any installation tips that they could share with me with respect to installing them, how to, do I need to build a custom shroud for them, do the Zip Tie installtions work OK etc. etc.
My alt didn't fit quite right, I had to loosen up the upper mount and only use one of the two bolts. The wires ended up at the bottom, instead of at the top so access will be harder.
I bought a 170 amp fusible link and wired it straight to battery cable connection with all the other starter wires.
It seem to still drop down when I run the fan, but not as bad as before, volts are still in the 14 + range.
You can go over to local parts shop and get it tested, might save you some time.
If you have a multimeter you can check the stock wires, they were a bit confusing on mine, one just goes from one side to the other, and one goes to switched +. The colors matched up, so not that bad. Don't use the thin wire that came stock or the fuse link, mine got real hot... to many amps.
