is this worth it?

i found these flex fans on jcwhitney and i was just wondering if this would be worth replacing the stock fan with? would this increase fuel economy like it claims to even though it is still being turned by the engine?

I personally do not like flexfans. A friend had one fly apart and went through his radiator, leaving him stranded on the interstate, and I had one fly apart and cracked my fan shroud.

And they are noisy too.

Keep the stock system in top shape and save your money. I have also seen them grenade, -makes a hell of a mess. Every widget out there is making claims of increasing fuel economy. Buy a vacuum gage, install it, and keep an eye on it to save gas money.

I would only put one in if your stock clutch/fan was defective. Even at that, for the small engine in the BII I would consider an electric fan instead of a flex fan. When my stock fan for my F-100 390 blew up, I replaced it with a flex fan. I do not think I saw an MPG increase, it did cool much better at idle.

Like the other guys said, quality is a big issue with those things. They take a little less power to drive them at idle, but more power over 30 mph. I like a clutch fan, best of all worlds.
