I got tired of trying to put used motor and trans oil in the quart and 5 quart oil containers and making oil messes, so I bought a 5 gallon bucket and lid from Wal-mart for a couple bucks and everytime I change the oil I empty my catch pan into the bucket. After 4 or 5 oil changes I take the 5 gallon bucket to my local recycling center and empty it out. It sure works a lot better than a bunch of little containers! And the oil does not eat away or deteriate the plastic bucket or lid. I've used the same bucket for the last three years and it's still working great.
Another good container, with a wide mouth, are those clumping type cat litter jugs with screw on caps. The larger ones hold several gallons. They do not have as wide a mouth as a bucket tho. When washed out, they also work well for storing used antifreeze also. They also do not leak if knocked over. They last for many years as long as you keep them away from sunlight.
That clumping litter also comes in square buckets that are usefull also.
I got the brilliant idea to use a 55 gal drum for old oil.Works great
except now I have a drum full of oil and cannot move it because it is to heavy.Maby I schould have thought of that before I started. The 5 gal bucket sounds like a better idea.
The lower half of a 5 gallon bucket makes a great catch pan also. It's what I have used for years after I found a discarded bucket someone had cut into with a circular saw.

I use a 55 gallon pizza sauce drum (it has a an eight inch hole in the top) with Harbor Freight drum wheels under it. When the drum is full (every 4-5 years), I roll it out to my back gate (on an alley), and call the oil recycler. They come out with a truck and pump it. Two years ago it cost $54 dollars to pump it. I'd rather pay them than deal with jugs and buckets.
