Mine did the exact same thing yesterday. I already had it in, they said it was the turbo but told me keep driving it and come back if it continues....???? need to find another dealer.....
The description you have is right on.
I was driving uphill about 50 with no load and it continued to flutter/sputter constantly with little power.

Get that bad boy to service and ask to see the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes). You can't have a dying turbo that doesn't perturb the control module to record problem codes. Sounds to me like the dealer didn't want to bother replacing the turbo -- or couldn't because you also had the "keep driving code" P1000. I found it harder to get the cut-out in warm weather. So you may have trouble eliciting the response in warmer weather. If you're close to out of warranty, ask to see the codes!

Good luck!

Dealer replaced EGR valve (badly carbonized), turbo, and reflashed. Truck drives MUCH better, and I think mileage is up a little. Glad that's over.

I think im headed down that road (hopefully)... I got only the reflash, and it actually runs much better but still does it, though it sounds a little different. They told me to drive it at least 50 miles with the "new program" and then come back if it continues... They said that there were no trouble codes.. I was thinking about unplugging the EGR but I'll just keep going back to the dealer since they do acknowledge that something isnt right...

No code. No repair. I guess. There is the code (P1000) that means measurements are incomplete and more driving is required. Perhaps you had that code. I did. Then it cleared but the others remained.

NO power @ highway speed

I am excited to read the post. If you search back, you'll see Ive been battling this issue for @ 6 months. Above 70mph, the truck will not downshift, unless you pump the pedal. You can floor it, and the rpms go up @200, but no downshift. I have had the cruise control cut off numerous times, the truck can not maintain its speed pulling a 5000lb trailer up a little grade. Dealer, 2 now, has said operating as designed, replaced EGR valve, and said, "that 10,000lbs was a lot of wieght for the truck, and it probally can not pull a grade with it". COME ON. I installed the Outlook Monitor to watch boost, rpms, etc. The boost runs high 20's on the flats, but when its is pulling, or accelerating, it pulls over 32psi. Also, in this morning, after letting it warm about 15 minutes, I had the truck floored trying to back the same 5000lb trailer up my driveway with no luck, couldnt even spin the tires..(oh, it is gravel) After a little driving, I get most of my low speed power back, but high speed power is non-existant. My outlook, and other forms of DTC readers never show any codes. Except PO500, when the speed control shuts off. ( I have replaced the speed sensor, and harness.) I plug in and unplug the EGR, I remove and clean the EGR, nothing effects it. I believe the turbo may be at fault, but have no codes to prove it.

Also, in the mornings, the trucks runs like it is out of fuel for several miles, I put a new filter in it, as well as air filter.

When I tow our race trailer, @ 12000 lbs, the boost reaches 38 psi, where it dumps it, drops power and comes back @25psi all in like one second.

HELP

HELP
Can you do this on demand? Best thing for no codes, but cruddy performance (can't tow 10K pound my rear end!), is to take a tech for a ride.

Yes, but only if we could get the Ford Dealerships to build next to a hill. I took one tech for a ride, but all of the speed limits around there were 55 and my truck really only does this at above 70mph.

Hmm. Given your specific problem, can you ride to an adequate hill? No way 5k-10K tows bother these bad boys! You may have to go faster than posted limit to demonstrate the problem then. My symptoms happened at 35-55mph, so you may be dealing with something else?

took it in to yet another shop. they said two bad injectors. Replaced the injectors and said, "runs great cant get it to do anything wrong!" I took the truck drove 6 miles to the interstate got to 70mph, stomped the accelerator, and got.....nothing. A couple hundred more RPMS, but no downshift, no power. Went back and got the service manager and went for another ride. Showed him the problem, pulled over because HE wanted to drive. Upon his acceleration at 70mph, same result. The truck was empty, w/o a trailer so she did speed up slowly but did not downshift. Manager says, " i see what you are talking about, but with no codes, we can not do anything, except have our regional service rep test it with his equip., ever thought about trading it in?"

The truck also takes about 5-10 seconds or 20-30mph to get going from a stop.

what do I do know?

Ask when they need the truck for the service rep's visit. Mention how excited you are to get the specialized help.

got the same problem here..have had it for 6 months plus/8000 kms. dealer says no problem, they see and have recorded the events with a flight recorder, but after all the test drives, (it`s been in the shop for 43 days since i`ve owned it, they have yet to find any codes/ out of SPEC problems. mine does it loaded or empty.(towing is MUCH worse) when passing, 50 mph/80kms, it will down shift only when floored, then immediately up shift. according to the specialist they sent from detroit, it is normal!!!!! and a delay of 5-30 seconds for the turbo to respond is with in specs. even if the engine itself will attempt to rev, it does so grudgingly. fuel and oil filters have been swapped twice in this rig. 12k on it, 7500 miles. delaer and tech have statwed this is normal...doesn`t say much if you have it occurring with your own. neighbour has identical truck, and to date, not a problem. mine....well.. a new ram is lookin better each day now.

as an adendum, since new... it appears when ever it wants to, it feels like it de-fuels, and until you idle for 3-5 mins, or shut it down and sit for 1-2 mins. you can go from 60 mph to 0 with you foot on the floor. still no codes, and no answers. several complaints of this problem to ford canada, but a non- issue for the area service rep. if they cannot see it doing it, there is no problem.
