I just picked up a pair of '71's today 1 a F 150 with no engine and the second a 250 camper special with a 351m/400. I was told this was the original engine but digging around it doesn't look like the 351m/400 was available on a '71. Not that it really matters as I am going to try a custom rebuild and not original however I would just like to know. Can anyone give me a definitive answer please?
Your right got the Titles today and it's a F100 not F150. However I'm still curious what engine was in the 250 camper special originally the VIN to the 250 is F25YCK84565. If anyone can decode this and let me know what came in it stock i'ld be apreciative
Tim, just curiuos, have you ever measured the stroke, or were you told like so many other sellers that the engine was a 390?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Sep-02 AT 08:56 AM (EST)]I have not had the engine apart. on my truck from all the info it had with it, it says my engine is a 390. I know the 360 and the 390 are almost idintical just by looking at the. i am hoping to get the engine on mine rebuilt next summer but for now it runs very good an dfast except for a few oil leaks. the guy i bought my truck from only new it was a f250... he never even drove it, he ended up with 2 fords and kept the 1965 and sold me this 1969 for $300.00...:-staun

Either way, you can't lose considering what you paid for the truck. BTW, you could originally get a 6-banger in the F250 as well....but why?
