could be an injector or two. after mileage piles up, they become weak on the spring side and can become noisy, eventually showing up with a slight miss. The internal spring in the injector (nozzle) becomes weak enought to allow combusion pressure to back feed into the injector, pushing fuel from the injector to the injection pump and making an air pocket in the fuel system.
if it does this at idle , you can short out the injectors and see if the noise goes away and that will be your weak injector.
could also try using a good dose of fuel conditioner to straighten out the problem (dirt in the fuel system) for a while.
before starting the engine, loosen all the injector lines at the injectors. resnug them all ... after starting the engine, loosen them one at a time and retighten each one as you go. you should hear a difference in idle each time. be careful not to get tangled up in moving parts. the fuel will leak from each one.
Could be an exhaust valve....I have a sound clip of mine ticking....if you would like it. I also have a woofing sound if the truck bogs down.... my problem is an exhaust valve...
