Can anybody tell me what's wrong with the backup feature that should beep when you are getting close to an object? I just got this truck Saturday and it doesn't seem to work. From what I saw in the owners manual everytime you put it in reverse it should be activated and work but when I put it in reverse the switch displays OFF. What's up with that?? By the way this truck is a Beast. I love the awsome sound of the PSD, power and the ride quality. It is a sweet ride.
After being rear ended on my windstar minivan, the backup sensors acted like this. One of them was broken from the collision (it looked fine on the outside, no marks). Once it was replaced, all was fine. You may have a defective unit on the bumper.

I believe this to be correct the system is shutting down due to a fault like a failed sensor. You need to have the system tested.
My 06' F250 PSD XLT CC LB FX4 came right off the lot with the back up sensor thingy not working. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the back-up module and speaker. Problem solved. Take it back to the dealer and let them fix it for you...
BTW...It will always be ON unless you manually turn it off when not needed. Like when towing
