DP Chip Owners - Question

Everyone with a DP chip seems to rave about them. I have a competitor's chip and am getting chip envy. Mine has been reprogrammed once already to try to get better shifting. Have good power and all but doesn't seem to live up to the DP reputation. Have any of you guys had another chip to compare the DP to?

i do know of Cat_man_963 who had a TS performance chip, he got rid of it, and i think the DPtuner chip has come in or it will be in soon. he will have some hard results. i too have a TS performance chip (which is very similar) and i want to see if it is worth changing over.

My low setting (~75HP) is stronger by far than the 80HP Superchip, and the 100HP diablo Predator I've tried.

If you already have a custom burn you may not see much of a difference in power, but DP is supposed to be very good with the tranny stuff. My shift schedule is whenever I step on the clutch, so I wouldn't know.

It is a custom burn six pos chip. With the first burn the tranny went into od and lockup at the same time. Very harsh. Then would unlock whenever brake was applied at any speed over ~38. Had it changed to go from 3rd to lockup to od then stay in lockup at any speed over 38. Like it a lot more now. As good as a DP? That's the big question.

That's the main reason I sold my TS chip and went with Jody - was for the shifting. I was never quite happy with the other chip's shifting - I basically just put up with it.

I've had the chip for a week now - couldn't use it until I have the BTS VB in - which finally came today!! I hope to get time to put it in tomorrow night - I will DEFINITELY post about it!!

It's a new valve body to install in your tranny in place of the stock one. Put together by Brian's Truck Shop (BTS). Improves shift firmness, and a few other things...

I have a factory tech valve body with a dp tuner and it seems to run and shift just fine, the only thing I don't like is in economy, real light on the throttle it shifts into od at 1000rpm's. not a real problem since it accelerates on up pretty easy, just ain't use to it.

Before I found this web site I spent the bucks on a Banks kit including chip. The Banks chip was supposed to be programmed at 85 HP but was very anemic by comparison. My daily drive is set on Jody's 80 HP setting and there is no comparison. Mileage, EGT's, and seat of the pants "umph" when you hit the long pedal is great! Would recommend it as part of a mod package to anyone.

That's a common complaint for the 80hp tune, it seems... I hear Jody's working on adjusting it. I don't have one myself, just read/heard from others of the same complaint.

Since it is an economy tune, this may be done to help with MPG. I don't mind it personally. If I'm light on the throttle, I don't need the extra power that more RPMs would give.

Will I be ok with the 80 HP setting on a DP tuner with just a 4" exhaust and the Quick mod? Do i need a wicked wheel?

You'll only need a wicked wheel or ATS housing (or new turbo ) if you experience turbo surging under load. If you're pulling a load or accelerating up a hill and you hear a psst-psst-pssst in boost sound, and the boost needle gets jumpy, that's not good for the turbo. A wicked wheel can help cure that... an ATS housing will cure it for sure.
