I have a number of 80-85 trucks - all carbed, but am currently looking into an 86 351W FI F150. I need some general info on this truck. I was surprised to see a FI truck with a v-belt instead of a serpintine, a regular distributor, etc. (All the FI engines I have worked on are 90's GM products and they are WAY different.)
So this 86 would it have a computer that also controls the tranny shifts or would it be a standard C6?
Any info would be helpful. When I first looked at the truck, the guy wanted $500 and it is rough so I didn't pay much attention. Body is rusty, but not any rot from the cab corners forward, it idles a little high, tires are junk - not a $500 truck for me.
But now the guy is thinking more in the 200 -250 range and I could part it out to fix a couple other trucks. I have a 351 HO with a 4v that thru a rod that I could either use the FI engine in or move the intake, etc over and make a HO out of it. SO now I want it, but would like to know more WHAT it is before getting it.
I do not think the 351w had fuel injection in 86. Only the 5.0. If you go to www.partsamerica.com, and select a 86 f150, you will find the only engine selection in 86 for the 351w is a 4bbl.
351w with fuel injection was 1988. 302 was 1985. My 85 also has v-belts. Maybe check the engine and verify it's a 351W. not difficult to have been transplanted
