Sorry for shouting, but I'm a bit excited this evening. First of all I've had the chance to work on my new project truck, '70 F-100, with my Dad. We haven't worked on a vehicle like this since I left home for college in '95. We thrashed on the truck for 2 evenings and half the day today. After approx. 15 years of not running it fired up and ran after changing a few parts, some pre-oiling, and little lube here and there. The 460 is running strong and sounds smooth, not a tick or a knock to be found. After changing the dried out carb gaskets it's idling and not puffing a bit out of the pipes
I still need to get the brakes working, I changed the master cylinder and now have some pedal. I still need to change out the wheel cylinders and get things bled before getting a test drive in.
I know the feeling. I remember the first time me and my father fired up my F100 for the first time. As I found out though, a good running engine is useless without a transmission that will work! When you're doing the brakes, check the lines. My brake lines were all shot to hell when I did a brake system overhaul on my F100.
I will definitely be checking over all the brakes lines while getting the system road ready. So far the trans seems ok, fluid looks good etc. But with spongy brakes I won't know for sure until it's out and about. I was told by the p.o.'s brother that both were rebuilt when they installed the Lincoln motor in the truck. Supposedly the trans was built by a local auto trans guru here in Waco. There was a sticker in the glove box from his shop that was too deteriorated to use... Capt. Frank's Bama Transmissions.
its such a good feeling huh? i know it. i had my 1970 crew down to the frame and when I finally got it running I could heave a big sigh of relief... my brakes are really stiff so i still have to fix those, but at least they work.
