Awesome. Thanks, AX. My bolts have clearly been replaced, but no washers or anything. To cure my "hokey pokey" problem, I'm going to try greasing the hinges without removing them to see how it goes. I'll also try moving my latch back toward the firewall as mentioned above to see if the gets the hood to slide back and down.

Thanks again.

Check out my extras gallery for pix of a pivot on the hinges that often freezes. Take the spring off and make sure that pivot is free. Moving the latch AWAY from the firewall is the correct direction to pull the rear down.

From reading Ax's posts it seems to me that having the pin hit the pront edge of the locking hole may be the way to get the hood to close correctly. Try adjusting the plate and see if you get any improvement. This may be the most common problem there is among effies with the stock hood. BTW, the springs are necessary. They actually pull the back corners down once they get to the correct position. Jag
Hey, AX, I'm confused. You're saying to move the latch FORWARD - that's the opposite of what Jag said earlier in this thread. He says move the latch BACK so it pushes the hood backward into its seat. Which is correct?

Moving the latch forwards is correct if the hinges are working properly. It needs to be stretched out to pull the back down. I know it sounds backwards, but it's the way it's designed to work. The latch plate is difficult to get to move, at least mine was. Mark it's location on the latch panel, unbolt it completely then reinstall it further forwards.

Sorry about the confusion on forward or back. I guess there is no real correct answer until you know how your latch is positioned. So, depending on where you currently have it placed, the latch may be positioned too far forward or back. From the way yours was behaving, it seamed to me that your latch needed to be be adjusted back. But, without being there to look at the pin as it goes into the latch, I am only giving you my best guess. So, if it looks like the latch and the pin are lining up in such a way as to to push the hood back, then yes, you need to reposition it toward the front. Give it shot both ways until you get it to work. Then report back and tell us what worked and what didn't work. Good luck, Jag

Mid Fifty sells oversized threaded ones to replace stripped ones. There are two sizes, the 53-55 are smaller diameter than the 56. The 56 hinges will work on 53-55 if you use the larger shoulder bolts (the threaded portion are the same size).
where does the wavy washers go?
