Replacing fluid in axles
Hi guys, I have a front Dana 44 axle and a rear Ford 8.8 axle. The fluid in both axles may have over 100,000 miles.
With the front axle should I try to pump out the old fluid through the upper fill plug, there's no pumpkin cover on this axle?
With the rear axle should I remove the pumpkin cover or try to pump out all the oil fluid through the lower drain plug?
Can I use the blue color RTV gasket sealer for my rear axle cover?

- That's the only way to get it out. (well, it's not. But it's by far the easiest)
- Yes. There is no lower drain plug. Take the cover off and look at the gears while you have it apart.
- I use a cork gasket and some RTV sealant.
