Unhappy Rough Idle

Any of you guy's have any rough idle issues on a 97? I've changed my oil around 3,500 mi since new, grease joints @ 1500 mi intervals. The truck now has 271,000 mi on it and once you're rolling it runs great. Whether it's cold or warm weather it still idles rough. I haven't changed injectors yet. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 97 that idles a little rough. It kind of shudders every 5 seconds or so. Power is also in question. I am waiting until I know it is not the fault or the winter blend fuel. There have been a lot of rough idle threads lately. Do a search and you will see them all. Are you using diesel kleen or the like?

Rough Idle

I have an automatic. I do use diesel kleen often especially during the winter.

Can you please explain the relationship between rough idle and transmission type?
I am curious about that.

Trucks with a manual tranny come from the factory with a dual mass flywheel and one indication when it's going bad is a rough idle.

I was having trouble with my 1-ton having a "rough idle." I couldn't figure it out. Took it to the dealership and was told my flywheel was coming apart. Only a problem for the manual tranny. Not a cheap problem either.

Fortunately I have an automatic trans. Do they use a two or three piece flywheel? I can't picture that coming apart.

Rough Idle

I did the same thing a short time ago while changing my fuel filter. It did seem to smooth out a little.
