Good day all! I am new to this board but I look forward to learning from all of you.
I have recently found a mint condition 1970 Custom Cab with ridiculously low mileage. I have a few questions before I make the leap.
It has a stock 390 with a 3 speed column shift transmission with overdrive. Is this a rare combination? What weaknesses (if any) exist in this transmission?
The previous owner has added A LOT of chrome gadjets all over the truck. How can I find out what belongs and does not belong on this truck? How hard are replacement parts to find for items such as light lenses that will need to be replaced to get her back to original?

Thanks, ecopeas '95 F-150 XLT 351W long bed stock (for now)

Welcome and congrats on the new rig. Sounds like a nice one. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing that the tranny you mention is sorta rare for '70. I'm sure someone will chime in with production nos.

There are lots of suppliers for lenses and other parts for the '70 Ford. If you don't find what you need from the suppliers on this page, do a search on the internet under "classic Ford truck." I'd give you some manufacturers names, but unless they sponsor this site, the moderator will remove them.

Regarding the chrome add ons, tell us more about your model. The different options such as Custom, Sport Custom, Ranger, XLT, etc were all mostly trim options. So depending on what you have, it will vary. Or if you have a question about a specific part or parts, let us know what it is and someone will tell you if it's original or not. Good luck and have fun!
