Question Tranny Questions!

I have a 95 f-250 powerstroke diesel 5 speed manual with 240,000 miles. When i shift from 2nd to 3rd i get a gringing/rubbing noise. I also can't downshift from 3rd to 2nd unless im basically stopped if i try to engage 2nd before im slowed down it will grind pretty hard. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and if i should get this fixed soon or not worry about it until it gets worse. I can live with it. I was told it could be synchros... any help would be great!

Yeah I think I would have the tranny fixed. Sounds right as far as synchros. You know that if you push you luck the tranny will let go at the least opportune time, ie towing heavy load, having to be somewhere important. Remember a half broke truck is STILL a broke truck.

Hey synchros is your problem I have the same problems with mine just in one more gear also alot of time I can double clutch and get it not to or alot less grinding. As soon as I can find the money mine will get fixed. Some on the other site have used redline MTL fluid as a fix its not as slippery as auto fluid. I have enough at the house to go in mine but am still a little scared to put it in because I haven't decided on wether to rebuild my unit or trade it on a remanufactered.
