Hey everyone....I just bought a 2005 Ford Ranger with 10,500 miles on it and it was certified pre-owned from a local Ford dealership. I had a question though, when I slowly press on the gas to accelerate (it is an automatic) it kind of sounds and feels like a standard. It just isn't smooth like my wife's 2002 Ford Explorer...where it is somewhat bumpy starting off. There is no huge noise and it doesn't do it every time, but it does do it once in awhile. If I push on the gas with more pressure, it doesn't really do it. Then when I brake to a stop, right before it completely stops, it seems to kind of feel the same. Once I get up to speed, it purrs and runs incredible (like all fords). Is this normal or should I be concerned? It is a V6 XLT 4.0L. It almost feels like it has too much power or something taking off like it is spinning the tires, but it isn't spinning the tires. The power and acceleration is great, there is nothing wrong with that, I just try to conserve gas by pushing on the gas a little softer, and that is when I notice it. I am not exactly an engine conossieur, so please give it to me in "dumb" talk. I appreciate your help!! Thanks again!
Mine does what you seem to mention to a certain degree. When i start off, does it seem like when you slip the clutch with a manual? Mine does that but I think it is because the timing of when the torque converter reaches stall point. Stall point is, if i remember correctly, when the engine is spinning the same speed as the output. But I could be wrong. As for when you slow down does it feel like it is downshifting for you? mine does that too. I can feel it hit 1st gear when stopping. Normal operation if you ask me....hope this helps!
