Drain Tranny?
Has been awhile. After doing some work on my '66 bug. I dug right in to the 1965 Ford truck , with a 352 and got it on the road. So I am wanting to change the tranny fluid and rear end which is possibly newer as the brake shoes that fit on the rear are for a 1968 and newer. I can find the filler bolt for the tranny but can't find the one to drain it? could someone give me some pointers, also would be nice to have some good sites to buy old Ford parts.
Thanks,
Joe
It may have been designed to drain by removing a side plate.
This is a stick right? Not an automatic?
As for the brakes, what do you wish to do with the rear end? Is it a Ford 9 inch rear? Or a Dana?
To tell the difference, look at the axle. A Ford 9" rear will have the mounting studs and nuts in the front.
A Dana will have a curved steel plate bolted to the rear of the axle.
It turned out to be the bottom bolt that attaches thr nose cone that is attached to the differential hense, driveshaft. that's it for the night.
PS that is one happy tranny now, thing had not much dirt brown oil in it, no metal that I could find was in the drain pain.
Question #2
How about the rear end. It has no drain plug. I have already bought a gasket for the cover. It is on the driveshaft side, not the back end. So? Do I need to drop the drive shaft and pull the cone with the pinnion gear in it to drain it?
