Can anyone tell me a good location to drill a hole in the oil pan to install a bung for an oil temp probe? I need to know where NOT to drill so I will not hit something inside ! I need a side or back/front location. I do not wish to drill the bottom.
I am going to use JB Weld to secure the bung in the hole, that way I won't have go thru the anony of removing the pan for welding/brazing. Amazing stuff, that JB Weld.
["vloney]can you tap into the eot sensor at the top of the motor? The glow plugs use engine oil temp for length of time operation"]
I saw the sensor port, but just couldn't figure out how to get that big probe for the oil temp gauge AND the eot sensor in that little space. Went with the top of the oil filter. Pulled cap, drilled and tapped and put it there. Even that's gonna have to be a temp location as the Stewart-Warner probe is so long that it contacts a spring-loaded "something" inside the filter housing. Either get a shorter probe or a longer adaptor for the top of the filter. The S/W probe is also too fat to fit into the transmission port where everyone else is putting theirs. Waiting for an answer from vender and S-W for that one! I really don't want to to drill the pan.
The vender is sending me the electrical version of the tranny temp gauge at no extra charge (I'm returning the mechanical one). It has a smaller probe on it and will fit the small port on the transmission case that everyone else has been using. Slight difference in visual looks of gauge but that's fine...will be able to tell at a glance difference between tranny temp and engine oil temp. It's great to be able to have a vender that works WITH you instead of thinking of lining his pockets all the time!!
