Rear Main Seal
I was just wondering how big of a pain it would be to put a rear main seal in the Dad's truck. It's a 95 F-150xlt 4X4 off road, supercab, longbed, 5.8 (351), E4od, all stock. He was wondering if we could do it on a weekend or if he would be better off putting it in the shop? Also, if he takes it to the shop, how much should he expect it to cost?

The seal itself is simple to replace, getting to it is problem. You have to do 6 hours of work for a 30 minute job. If you don't have the right tools or haven't done a big job like this, I'd take it to a shop. To me, removing the crossmember is the worst part of it. Get past that and you're home free. You may also have to drop the exhaust to get to the X member bolts on the right side to make it easier.
