BTS Valve Body Install

Here is the write-up I did for the BTS/VB install on the carolina PSD list.
You don't have to worry about mixing up bolts. There
are like 6 or 8 bolts that are all the same size plus
two nuts that go over 2 studs. The torque spec is
80-100 in/lbs and DO use a torque wrench. While you
are in there, take the time and and make sure all the
other bolts in other valve body and solenoid pack are
tight by setting your torque wrench to 80 in/lbs and
checking them.
If you do not own a torque wrench, this is a perfect
excuse to buy one and do not get a cheap chinese made
one. Get a decent quality one that is made in USA.
Sears Craftsman Torque wrenchs probably have the best
value vs quality so that is a good place to get one.
Tourque wrenchs are one area that you don't want pot
metal knock offs. That you sometimes can get away with
with other tools.
Oh, and back to installing the valve body. After the
pan is dropped, the filter is pulled down, and before
you start unbolting the valve body...STOP... pick up
the new BTS valve body and look at it. Then look at
your valve body in the tranny. Unbolt the Valve body
that looks identical to it. There is a reason I have
said this. Over the last two years I have been on The
Diesel Stop, there have been numerous people who have
went to install a aftermarket VB and screw up and
remove the small center one. This is bad because,
there are loose ball check valves in this one and they
will fall out and dissappear and then if you find
them, you will be stressed out trying to figure where
they go back because you don't have a diagram. If you
look at the BTS before hand, there is NO mistaking
which valve body to remove. Also once the correct
valve body is removed, before you install the Transgo
flow re-direction plate, remove the screen that is
between the tranny and valve body. Sometimes that
little sucker will drop right out when removing the
valve body, sometimes you got to reach up with you
fingers and turn it 90 degrees and pull down. After
it is pulled out, place the Transgo flow re-direction
plate in place then re-install that screen in the same
hole on the Transgo plate. Then stick new BTS valve
body up there and bolt in. Work the Torque wrench in
a stagerred pattern starting with the inner center most
bolts and work outwards. Torque in small increments
until you reach the spec. That about does it.
You need to get a torque wrench appropriate for the job. You need one that reads inch-pounds. You really don't use a lot of torque on the valve body bolts!
I ended up having to buy yet another torque wrench for my wheels, as mine was not heavy dute enough for the task.

Well, it is noticable but firm. Seems like less slippage.
Talked to Brian and he said he didn't want to put instructions because he wanted you to call him. Reason was that he would tell you which holes to drill out if you wanted to make the shifts firmer.
