I have a 1993 F-150 . The leather steering wheel is finally falling apart. Do any of you guys know about how much a replacement is going to set me back?? I want to keep it stock because I like the leather.thanks
I got a clean, low mileage (50kish) Town Car column out of a 96 (I think). The column is mechanically the same, the differences are that the turn signal switch and the ignition switch have different connectors. However, the switches on your truck column "bolt right on" so then it's compatibile with your truck's wiring with the effort of removing four torx screws (two per).
Since my 93 F350 doesn't have air-bags, I decided to remove the airbag out of the center pad in the town car steering wheel. I did this by removing the center pad (four nuts), then carefully drilling out the 18 rivets around the perimeter which hold the rubbery center pad onto the metal chassis of the air bag module. Once that was done, I drilled out the four rivets that hold the air bag firing mechanism off the metal chassis, then used 18 #8 machine screws with nuts and lock washers to put the rubbery center pad back onto the metal chassis, and reinstalled.
Then fired the airbag "guts" on the lawn, so I could throw it into the trash and not worry about injury to the garbage men.
I put the old column in the attic "just in case", but I'll probably never reinstall it. I'm very used to tilt-wheel now.
Thanks for the reply. Will check with ford on monday as I want to replace with original equiptment.Just wondered what to expect as I dont want to have a heart attack when the dealer tells me what it's gonna cost me.Thanks
