Make a water reservoir out of some larger diameter galvanized pipe (as large as you can fit) and adapt it to the drain hole in the tank. Use some more fittings to get it back to your drain fitting size. When water collects it sits in the replaceable pipe instead of the tank. Of course drain frequently!
Also make sure your drain fitting is at the lowest spot in the tank. I have seen many horizontal tanks where the tank was tilted away from the drain allowing condensate to collect in the rest of the tank away from the drain fitting. I also pour a little (1/2 cup) high detergent oil into my tank a couple times a year to emulsify with the water and help protect the tank. Makes a gooey mess to drain tho.
Also use a coalescing filter on your output line. They are available at parts houses, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, etc. Then drain all of your hoses and maybe run a little alcohol thru them to clean them out. Then blow them dry. Always use a lubricator for your air tools unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise. I use an INLINE lubricator on a short length of hose with a good swivel to attach to the air tool. I keep it plugged back into itself and hanging by the compressor when not in use. This keeps oil out of my main air hoses if I want to use them for painting, inflating, or blowoff.
