I'm a by the book kinda guy. Tonight, my 98 Explorer LTD AWD 5.0 V8 got his 120,000 mile transmission service. You know, replace filter, new gasket, etc. I took it to a local shop, and they usually do good work. Tonight, they had a little trouble though, replacing the filter. Is there a bolt or anything to hold it down? When we removed the pan, the filter was just hanging there, and when we replaced it, we had to jam it in the hole.
Also, they had Mercon. And my book says use Mercon V. So they brought out some addative that is supposed to work. Can I trust that? Should I take it back to get a new filter/fluid combo?
They should not be trusted. DO NOT use mercon in a mercon V application you will ruin it. They of all people should know how to install that filter. The additive is a cheap cover up on their part. Take it back and get it done right.
I'm taking it back. Unfortunately, i had to drive 500 miles on it already. What kind of damage is going on?
I know they don't stock Mercon V. What should I buy and bring over there for them to replace with? I think i read somewhere that the multi applicable Mercon V that Mobil makes is no good. Castrol?
Also, had the Power steering done there. THey used power steering fluid, instead of ATF. SHould I get that redone as well?
Help!
