Anybody install suicide hinges? If so what do you recommend and did you have any problems I should watch out for?
I assume this is for the '56 you have listed in your profile. If it is, the aftermarket hinge kits I have seen look alot like your stock/current door hinges. Seems to me that I read a tech article in Rod and Custom or one of those mag's where they used the hinges off of a '53-'56 effie for some other project car. See if you can make them work, if not there are aftermarket hinge kits available. As for latches, bear claws would be the way to go. And if you are looking for handles.........well, I would shave them off to really set off the suicide doors and just use some latch actuators.
I don't have suicide doors, but I shaved my door handles. I used bear claw latches and actuators. I have them wired in to my alarm system that has two accessory outlets so that I can open the doors with my alarm remote control. This was actually fairly inexpensive. I think the alarm with the relays cost about $85, and this opens both doors seperately. I also installed hidden electric door switches under the dash on the driver's side and passenger side as an additional alternative. AND, I have a "murphy's law" cable system that is attached to the drivers side latch, should my electrical system fail. It sounds complicated but was all rather simple and not much clutter either.
