I had my chip programmed for 24 lb/hr injectors by motorhaven. I was just wondering, is that tune designed so i can use my stock MAF sensor? Or is the 24 lb/hr tune just to get a little bit more out of the engine and I NEED to get a 24 lb/hr MAF?
Also, I have a crane cam that i had the chip programmed for. I will be switching to a stock mustang cobra camshaft. Do i need to get a re-tune or will i be okay?
Typically, the tune is matched to the parts you've got. So if you didn't tell them that you had a larger MAF, then I think they'd assume it was stock.
MAFs are rated by their openings, in millimeters. A Lightning MAF is like 90mm. I can't recall what the stock one is, I think it's like 80mm or 70mm but I'm just guessing.
IMHO the factory MAF is fine until you start running boost (blower, turbo), at which point you can go with a MAF from a Lightning.
Most cam MFRs will tell you if a new tune is required or not. Some of the milder ones are OK with the factory tune, but once the cam specs deviate signinicantly from stock, a reburn is often needed.
Yeah, they knew i was running 24 lb/hr injectors. I have some EGR problems i need to fix then i'm planning on getting it dyno'd. It runs pretty rough, at idle, and when you unplug the IAC it doesnt even effect the idle so i'm guessing the EGR is leaking and letting in just enough air at ilde to keep it running. I cant wait to get that fixed. It doesnt have alot of power at idle, well, not as much as i'd like anyway, but when it gets up to about 2500-3000 RPM's its like a rocket taking off. I'm getting some GT40 heads and the stock cam from a cobra with roller lifters and the heads are going to have roller rockers on them. So after that i'm guessing it should kick some real butt.
