i need some ideas for a 10ft. flatbed iam planning on having built? does any one have a flatbed that was built to thier specs? what is the price of a new flat bed ? truck is 76 f250 s/c 2wd.. thanks for ideas and pics
Ive got a 9' aluminium flatbed on my 80 F100 and an 11.5' on my 75 350, both in my gallery. The best idea with a flat bed is to build it yourself if you're able and have the right equipment. Not much good giving you a price in oz dollars.
theres a old ford running around with what looks like a shortened duece bed on the back. its a 1 ton and looks pretty good. that might give you a idea about a bed.
I'm currently building a bed for my 78', F-350 The bed is 9'-3" x 7'-3" and 13-3/4" from the top of frame to top of deck both front and rear (factory specs).
I'm copying a factory original except that I'm using channel iron instead if formed steel in the event I want to convert it to a dump bed later. It weighs just short of 1K, and cost me 639.00 for the steel all cut to size, including a 2-piece 1/8" diamond plate deck instead of wood, and a front bulkhead just below the rear window, and two days work (Alone). I figure a new bed would cost about 2500 - 3000.00
BTW, the new bed weighs about 150 lbs. more than the original. I'll have some pics next week if I can figure out how to post them, I just bought a digital camera to put my ride in the gallery.
If you want more on the specs, e-mail me and I'll get them to you.
I also have a 8'er back in the day i had no shop to build my own. So i found a distributer here in Ca. The name is Hillsbrough they are from Hillsbrough, Kansas. I think i payed 900.00 for it in 2000-2001. I love it. It came with all the lights and a built in goose neck hitch. Very stout i have had huge loads on this thing oak wood, hay ect.. there is a pic in my gallery also. Good luck !!!
i was considering fixing my flatbed on my truck, was going to replace the 2" x 4" tubes that are rusting out with 3" channel for cross members and then if i used wood for floor i was going to use 3" x 5" steel angle 1/4" thick for sides and that way the 3" can sit ontop of the wood and the 5" side going down will cover the edges of wood and the crossmembers. I got the idea from a flatbed trailer.
i custom built mine because im a welder, but i also enjoy the space, so i put everyhting up froont as close as possible, such as my welder and torch tanks, i also put bedrail stake pockets and made rails out of the plastic decking wood, and it looks sharp, but my custom is different from your custom which is why its custom, but like i did you should write down the main uses for the bed and what you want to do with it, then draw it and draw it over and over until you love it because once you spend the money to build one thers no turning back good luck
