who what a difference

lately i have been having this problem when i am sitting at a stop light then i get on the gas to go it seems to be out and die so i redid all my fuel lines and looked in the carb and new filters and pump but it still did it so i thought maybe its the ignition so i got new pluggs nope then new wires nope then new cap and rotor nope then my buddy told me to look at my magnetic pick up and the never crossed my mind so i put a new one in and whoa my baby runs like a champ but my question is how often do i have to change it

Only when it acts up. A good one should easily go 30 - 50,000 miles. The problem is the vacuum advance moves it and that movement slowly wears the wiring. So when you went to accelerate, it moved the wires which then lost connection and killed the engine.
