The PO of my truck did a pretty good job of destroying the smog equipment on my truck, but he did an even better job of destroying the vacuum system. Heck, I don't even know how the truck is running as well as it is. I'm in the process of trying to get everything straight, but it's going to take a while. In the mean time, I would at least like to have the EGR valve operational. At this time, there is no vacuum line hooked up to it, and I don't know where to hook a vacuum line up to when I get one. An aquaintance told me he thought it went to a vacuum connection that is mounted near the coil. It has two vacuum ports, neither connected. I checked with the engine running, and neither has a vacuum draw. Can someone please explain to me how and where to hook up the EGR vacuum, and is there an alternate source that I could go to, i.e., the vacuum tree on the upper intake manifold? Thanks for any help.
It does go to the EVR next to the coil. One of the lines is a source from the manifold, the other goes to the EGR. If I remember, this circuit is tied to the computer via the TPS. So when you open the throttle, computer senses it, activates the EVR which in turn opens and vacuum from the manifold will open the EGR.
Loos, thanks for the explanation. Couldn't I just run a vacuum line from the EGR to the EVR, and then another one from the vacuum pod on the upper intake and make the EGR operational? I know that one of the vacuum nipples on the upper intake is blocked off, so something went there??? Thanks for your help.
Basically, that's the way it is. If I remember my source line comes off the vacuum tree on the manifold. Has about 6 ports on it. The single source one in the back goes to the MAP sensor
If you look in this pic, in the middle of the top intake manifold. You'll see the vacuum lines all coming together in a multiport connector. The red one going left to the manifold vacuum port in front is the supply line to all those others. It's a mess in there but it will all be fixed once(if) I get it running again.
Yep, I remember seeing that picture, but I couldn't make out exactly which line was which. I kept looking for a green line, but couldn't find it. Thanks for your help.
