ranger makeing a noise

So I'm assuming it's almost a whine sound?
Couple things it could be..
- Transmission (only do it in certain gears unless it's screwed)
- Rear differential
I'd guess it is your transmission, how are your fluid levels? I know before I replaced mine just after I bought it, it had a whine in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I guess the guy that owned it before me let it run dry as it leaked slightly. This caused bearings, and gears to break apart. My truck sounded like it had a dirty supercharger on it hah. Thats the best way I can describe the sound.
Not really good news by the sounds of it. I know I got a used tranny for $400.00 or you can get it rebuilt but that will likely be more money than a used transmission.
