I'm looking to get an exhaust system, but I'm not too sure on which one to get. I was told by one guy that Magnaflow was pretty weak, Flowmaster was good, but not for long trips cuz it would suck after a while. He said the best thing he recommends is Enron, or something like that. Can somebody please help me out, I don't really know too much about trucks, I just know I love my F-150.It's a 2003 with 30K on it. Please help. Thanks.
hricne, i have the magnaflow cat back single 3 and 4 at the tip and it is stainless steel and it rips...i had a flowmaster 40 series aluminized one on before with dual outs and it rusted out in 2 years and was a tad bit louder than the magnaflow....im really impressed with the magnaflow for sure....it even has a drainhole drilled out in the chrome tip, that is attention to detail....oh yea buy the way you can still leave your spare on with a single....good luck trying to find that....i can take pics if ya want let me know
What engines do you guys have? I have asked about systems in the past and was advised that most of the louder ones will make the 4.2L I have sound like a ricer. So far I havent touched the exhuast yet, still factory.
The bad thing about the 4.2 liters w=from what I have noticed is most exhaust systems do make them sound like ricers, Wonder what a glasspack would sound like on a 4.2.....
I have the 4.2 in an '04 F150 Heritage. I have a 40 series original flow flowmaster muffer, si/do, into 2.5" pipe with 3.5" tips out the back. It has a nice deep rumble on idle and light acceleration. Under hard acceleration it does sound strained, but overall I am happy with it, taking into consideration its a v6. The interior resonance is high, although it doesnt bother me.
My 04 f150 heritage with a 4.2 has a 40 series delta flow flowmaster SI/DO with 2.5 inche piping all the way thru with a custom side exit system with stock cats. It doesnt sound ricy to me at all. Yes it could be deeper but im not into the loud truck sound everyone likes with glass packs and oversized tips. Im looking more for a mustang sound. As for long trips (12+ hours) it hasnt bothered me a bit.
I have the 2003 S-crew with the 5.4L the K&N fipk fit and I just recently purchased the all stainless 3" Magnaflow and it performs, sounds, and bolted on perfectly except very little clearence by the spare tire but I got it to work. When I get on the gas it rips, when cruising on the highway it sounds stock, just what I was looking for. MAGNAFLOW!!!!!!! Don't ever buy aluminized, stock oem exhausts aren't even using that junk anymore LOL!!!!!!!
Fxxer, That sounds great. What have you noticed with your fuel mileage? I have the Predator tuner, and I thought with the K&N fipk and a bigger exhaust that it would make a big difference. Have you noticed a power gain? Any comments are welcome.
Shmuck, If I checked my gas mileage I would probably cry and get some GEO metro. LOL, tell you the truth this exhaust is so new that I only had a chance for one trip and I was towing a car hauler with a 500 pound hot tub and was getting 10-12 MPG running between 65-70 MPH. Without the trailer and load I haven't had a chance to test, but I am hoping for 19-20 MPG.

I've got a custom y-pipe cat-back with a glasspack from summit racing. I don't like flowmasters or magnaflows. I don't like mufflers at all. The flowmaster sounds too bellowy. My glasspack gives more of a roar at WOT. Can hardly hear it at idle, nice mellow sound at average acceleration, and it absolutely SCREAMS at WOT. It's what I think a V8 should sound like : D. Highway, almost no interior resonance. A buddy of mine went to go start my truck that was sitting about 100 yards down the street one night, started it up, and I could clearly hear it idling from 100 yards back, but nothing inside. I LOVE it. I have a predator tune, K&N 77 series, 75mm throttle body, and TB spacer. I get MUCH better gas mileage after all the mods, and is definitely much more powerful (seat of the pants dyno, of course).
