dual tank problem

i have a 93 f1504x4, dual tanks, and i cant run off the front tank. the selector switch works so its not an electrical problem, but i cant find the 3-way, or is it 6-way valve that is supposed to be on the truck. anyone know where its located? is there anyway i can test the fuel pumps as well? i tried turning the key to see if i hear the pumps pressurising the lines, but i cant hear either one even tho i know the rear works. any help would be appreciated.

The selector switch is dual function. It tells you the fuel in the tank and turns the pump on. You don't have a selector valve. Your truck has what is called a Fuel Delivery Module(FDM) and it's mounted on top of the tank and incorporates the sending unit and pump and return valve.

Check that link to another thread. The diagram is for an earlier model, pretty much the same other than wire color changes and you don't have the in-line hi-pressure pump.

It probably is. But at least it's the front. The rear one is the real "BUGGER". You can purchase the whole unit or just the pump. Do a search in this forum, you'll find alot of threads with links to where owners purchased them.

If it's the front tank it's pretty easy, just burn of as much fuel as you can, losen the 2 retaining straps til the nuts are flush with the ends of the bolts, tip the tank down. On top you'll see the 4 pin connector and 2 fuel lines. Disconnect the lines and the connector. On outer part of the circle, you'll see a ring with some tabs sticking up. Take a hammer and a punch and tap on the tabs moving the ring in a counter-clockwise rotation until the ring pops out(about 1/2" movement). Then try and lift the FDM out, it may take a little prying to get it loose. Becareful of fuel that may still be in the unit when you take it out. There should also be what's called a Quad ring(square shaped o-ring) underneath the lip of the FDM. Your replacement one should come with a new one.
