hey will the front brake calipers off an 87 F-250(dual piston) fit 86 F-150(single piston) front spindals?... i havent tore them apart yet so i was just wonderin if i need to do a complete spindal swap or if i could just swap calipers
A straight swap won't work because the 250 calipers won't fit. If you have a dana 44 you can swap the entire spindle assembly. If it's a 2wd truck i'm not sure if you can do that.
Are you sure he can swap the whole spindle? I thought the F250 had a larger diameter axle than an F-150. If the axle shaft is larger in the f250, then the spindle bearing will be too loose when he puts the larger spindle on the smaller axle shaft.
I don't know for sure, just asking. I just know that the main difference between the 150, 250 and 350 trucks is the axle strength.
If its a mudder that wont see street, go for the swap...
If its anything more then a farm truck that wont see pavement, please dont cheap out with used calipers.
I'm hoping its a mudder, because thats a pretty dangerious way to save $30

I just went through replacing the drivers steering knuckle on me 82 F250 4x4. Some one messed up the one on my truck and I searched high and low for a new knuckle and could not fine one. A used 80-86 was hard to come by but I did find it. I had an 82 F150 4x4 and looked at it and found the following difference:
Spindle bolts 6 vs. 8
Spindle bore the same
Center of spindle bore to center of tie-rod hole, about 3 inches shorter.
Distance between ball joints shorter
Caliper mount opening shorter
I did find that the newer (caliper pins vs. bolt to hold slide in) knuckle on the F250. Will work if you use new calipers! One difference is the spindle uses 6 bolts not 8.
The single piston calipers are shorter then the 2 piston type.
