I got a 99250ld with a 5.4 its 4wd its a great truck super clean ive done some little stuff like bug deflecter rain guards 285/75/16 MIckey thompson tires, but now im moving to performance..I just ordered my magnaflow cat back, and a hi flo cat,and im gunna make a y pipe with the hi flo cat out of 3" stainless..my K&N Intake is sitting on my toolbox and so are my new plugs coil packs fuel filter etc...
But maybe a little down the road I was looking into the Procharger kit,or the Vortech kit. I dont race it or anything, but I MIGHT! But I do a lot of trailering, not huge stuff, just an 18' open with about a 3500# car and the occasional snowmobile/atv trailer.. But I wanna have some extra kick for passing gear..Anyone used these kits yet?Good bad indifferent?
Also, truck has about 110,000 on the clock, and if this blower pops the motor,I was going to rebuild it anyways so no sweat there..
I have used a Vortech before, found it to be very good indeed - for your needs a Positive Displacement Blower (Twin Scre or Roots) sounds like it could be better, the SD is a heavy truck, and towing as well...
No Mines just a little Light Duty..Or as I like to call it the Super Duty F150..

If he needs passing power then the Vortech or ATI will be as good or better than a positive displacement supercharger. Contrary to popular belief, centrifugal superchargers can and do make plenty of down low power and since they are more efficient they don't have as much parasitic loss either. That means more power in the mid range to redline. Off idle response differences are minimal, running a 12# ATI will make 7 psi almost the instant you floor the gas pedal which is virtually the same as a roots blower and then build more boost from there on out.
I run a Vortech on my GEN 1 L and it has performed extremely well. I also like the Pro Charger units, as they are solid and their kits come with an air-to-air intercooler.
I spoke to a friend that is a member of a local car club a couple of weeks ago. He has put over 80k miles on his Pro Charger and the only thing that went bad is one idler pulley, and ATI took good care of that. He has a 99 F-150 5.4 ext cab 4x4; it's a daily driver and he uses is to tow his race car quite frequently. The kit is designed to run without any aftermarket tuning and he has confirmed that he has had that kit on there the entire 80k miles and no tuning what so ever.
