smart key / backup buzzer

smart key / backup buzzer
Does the 2001 also have the smart key ? Mine only came with 1 key and I need to get another . Do I have to go to Ford ? also when I put it in reverse it has some kind of backup alarm is this something that was added or do they all have it?

Unfortunately, two programmed PATS keys are required to program a new one into the system without special equipment. A dealer will have the equipment, as will some locksmiths. Once you have two working keys, inexpensive blanks are available on ebay. The blank can be cut by any hardware store and then programmed into the system using the directions in the owners manual. If you lose one, you will still have two so that you can do another replacement without the extra expense of a dealer or a locksmith. That is the reason I purchased a backup key on ebay for around $10. Later on, I purchased an external entry keypad on ebay, which is programmed into the PATS just like another key. So now I have two backups.
I don't believe that the backup alarm was an option on the '01, so it is probably aftermarket.
