heating problems

My 69 has factory air. The blower blows hard, and the control valve on the heater hose is working fine. But, I have no heat. So, I pulled the air conditioner/heater box down. The heater core is hot as fire, as are both hoses, so I have no blockage. The box is still all hooked up, but not bolted up. I can't get it to swing around far enough so I can look in the end of it to see what may be going on. I suspect a flap isn't opening or something. All of the selectors seem to be working, but a friend told me that his did the same thing, and the rod had come loose from the flap inside the box.

My question is, has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone describe how this box is made inside? I've never had a 69 with air, so I have no clue. I plan on taking the box all the way out, but I want to have an idea as to what I'm going to be looking at. I don't have a shop manual yet, and I need to fix it so I can take it on a trip this weekend. Thanks guys.

A 72 shop manual is not very clear on this. Fresh air is used for heat. The ac/ heat switch opens the heat door lever for heat. The lever is on the top between the bolts that go thru the firewall. Hope this helps.

Yes, that does help. Now I know which lever is connected to which door. If air blows out where it's supposed to blow out (which it does) but it's not hot, it's got to be either a door or a bad core/hose valve, etc., right? And I've eliminated the possibility of a bad core and/or valve.

It looks as if the fan is in the very front (towards the firewall) of the box, and the core is just behind it (towards the cab). I assume the fan blows through the core and is forced by the closed kick panel vent on the passenger side to flow through the box and to the floor and/or the defrost ducts. Is this all correct?

Thanks so much for the help.

Not much help again, but found this, AC/ heat door cable. Loosen the cable clamp at the heater/ ac housing. Move lower control lever to mid position of the slot. Move ac door lever to the full forward position and tighten the cable retaining clamp. The ac door lever is a few inches from the heat door lever( towards the cab ).
