How many miles on your Bronco II

'88 Bronco II 378k
I know this is an old thread, but I have to chime in that my '88 BII has 378k on it. I'm the original owner, she had 17 miles on her on 6 June 1988 when I drove her off the lot. She still has the original 2.9 engine and 5 speed tranny. This truck gets about 25 miles to the gallon. I fill her up at about 460 miles per tank. It has mostly highway miles in SoCal. It's a challenge sometimes to pass smog, but the O2 sensor did the trick this last time, high NO. She has leaked oil since she had 25k on her. I replaced gaskets, and she still leaked.
I have to say that I love the bro'. That's what she's called, someone broke off the 'nco II part. When she turns 20 next year, I plan to have her overhauled and painted. Oh, yeh, one clutch replacement at 220k.
This is one great vehicle. Don't knock the 2.9, knock the people that didn't take care of them.

i have to agree! even though the engine does have some issues with cooling and the famed top end knock.. this pretty much goes with anything, you have to keep up with the maintenance, gotta take care of them. my 72 f100 had over 300,000 when i pulled the engine to rebuild,it could have gone even longerif it had been properly prepared when put in storage for 5 years by the prev owner.

Getting closer to 160K miles on the truck, not necessarily on the engine (as previously stated, it was towed behind an RV without removing the driveshaft most of it's original owner's tenure), now very VERY little top end noise (last oil change was 10W-30 Castrol with Purolator filter), and uses pretty much NO oil, other than some weepage, I believe from oil pan gasket, front / rear main seals, and maybe the 90 degree filter adapter. I plan on degreasing the engine and tranny again when it warms back up and correcting a lot of the leaks and whatnot, probably while in process of doing my axle swap, if not before.

I have 110,000+ on my 88'. My father owned it prior to me taking over 2 months ago. It's been maintained fairly well, even though it's leaked oil around the valve covers forever. It's been a good vehicle over all, and can't knock the 2.9L that's in it.
