I own a 1988 f150 302 5spd and have now had a recurring problem trying to get her to hold oil. It looks like it's leaking fropm the valve covers.(so says a mechanic buddy of mine). I have replaced the gaskets 3 times, only to have it start leaking again within a couple of weaks. It is leaking from the rear driver's side this time but has leaked in front on both sides before, so it wouldn't seem that it would be something leaking from above. I appreciate any insight I can get into this as it is driving me insane.
Thanx,
Mitch
PS- The valve covers are straight, not warped at all.
are you using rubber or cork gaskets? rubber is the way to go, and they have to absolutely have a dry mountings surface or they will more then likely leak
I was using cork, I'm going to try rubber. I was told to check my oil return holes on head and make sure they are clear. I'm not sure how to do this? After having the truck out, I can hear oil draining back into the pan for 30-45 sec.? Does this sound normal?
